H. Wayne Olsen

H. Wayne Olsen owner of Wayne Olsen’s Guide Service, Lake Anna, VA passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at UVA Hospice.
Wayne was preceded in death by his first wife of 43 years, JoAnn Olsen.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Tricia Fritter-Olsen, son, Ricky Olsen and daughter, Carrie Brill.
He also leaves behind his much loved “fishing son’s”; Dale Garland, Roy Sassano, Jeremy Southerly, Gary Payne, Dennis Tate and Guy Davis.
Wayne was well known for his fishing guide service as well as his teaching skills for those who loved the water and wished to learn or enhance their own fishing technique. Wayne was loved by his many friends and colleagues in the Lake Anna fishing community and will be greatly missed by all.
A private celebration of life memorial will be held at a later date.

Mary Mona Columbia Lee Harkrader passed away peacefully at her home in Louisa County, Virginia surrounded by her family on October 4, 2015. Columbia Lee was born November 10, 1963 in Richmond, Virginia. She is survived by her parents, The Honorable F. Ward Harkrader, Jr., Judge, 16th Judicial Circuit (retired) and Francis Mona Barker Harkrader; her brothers and their wives, Fletcher W. Harkrader, III and Debbie B. Harkrader, Clyde M. B. Harkrader and Mary Susan Harkrader, T. Wellesley W. Harkrader and Laura Lee Harkrader, and Dr. E. Rex L. Harkrader and Cheryl Harkrader; her aunt, Agnes Lisa Barker; her nieces and nephews and their spouses, Mary Hannah Francis Harkrader Johnson (Matt Johnson), Clyde M. B. Harkrader, Jr. (Sara Veazey Harkrader), Nathan Hunter Crane Harkrader (Jessica S. Harkrader), Callom B. Harkrader, Rosa Lee Genevieve Harkrader, Rachel Ellen Lila Harkrader, Rosemary Harkrader Watson (Jack Watson), Lacy Harkrader, Lakey Harkrader, and Columbia Harkrader; great nephews and niece, Elija Wright Johnson, Gideon Ward Johnson, Susannah Joy Johnson, Joan Elizabeth Francis Harkrader.
Columbia Lee graduated from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in Lynchburg, Virginia in 1986 with a bachelor’s degree. She graduated from T. C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond with a Juris Doctor degree in 1989.
Columbia Lee enjoyed life in the country, entertaining, fashion, exploring the world of cooking, and her Welsh Corgi and constant companion “Victoria”. Columbia Lee was known by all for her love of life, her positive attitude, and her tenacious spirit.
A memorial service will be held at Gilboa Christian Church at Cuckoo, Virginia on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 12:00 noon. There will be a reception and visitation for family and friends following the service in the Gilboa Christian Church Fellowship Hall. A private burial service will be held at the family home place, Glen Beau.

James Edward Winger

James Edward Winger 75 formerly of Mineral, VA passed away peacefully on Monday, October 5, 2015 at the home of his daughter in Chesterfield, Virginia.
Private services will be held at a later date in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Daughters, Deborah Winger Duren and Linda Winger request that; memorial donations made be made in his name to The American Cancer Society, 1445 E Rio Road, Suite 104, Charlottesville, Virginia 22901 or your local SPCA.

Kathryn Marie Palmese Winston

Kathryn Marie Winston passed away Monday, October 5th at Henrico Doctors Hospital. She is survived by her sons and their families, Wayland Winston, Jr. and his wife Deborah of Goochland, Sean Winston of Mineral, and Mark Winston and his wife Christie of Holly Grove. She leaves behind eight grandchildren, Wayland III, Sean, Hannah, Courtney, Ian, Emily, Megan and Raelyn; and one great grandson, Zeke.
Also surviving are her brother, Jerry Palmese, sisters, Norma Ford and Toni Hester, and nieces, Fran Palmese and Heather Mealy.

Kay was born on January 22, 1952 in Flushing Meadows, New York, the daughter of Frances and Lee Palmese. She graduated from Louisa High School. Kay lived in Mineral most of her life but also resided for a time in Arizona, Colorado, Utah and Wyoming. Kay was creative and artistic, and enjoyed drawing, painting, pottery and all types of crafts. She was a dedicated and loving mom to her three boys who will miss her deeply.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 10th at 2:00 p.m. at New Life Community Church, located at 509 East Main Street, Louisa, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you donate to New Life Community Church. Woodward Funeral Home of Louisa will be handling the arrangements.

James W. “PAW PAW” Minnick, 81 of Blackstone Virginia passed away on Friday, October 9, 2015
Survivors include his devoted and loving wife of 48 years; Dorothy Minnick; his son, Steven G. Long of Florida, his daughters, Linda Brown (Sammy) of Blackstone and Sharon Nalley (Raymond) of Mechanicsville, MD; five grandchildren, David, Nathan, Michael, Steven and Angel; seven great-grandchildren; his brother, Ashby Minnick (Wanda) of Arizona; and his sisters, Arlene Van Hoy (William), Julia Wilson both of Roanoke and Edna Goodrow of Georgia.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and Pawpaw. We will always keep his memory in our hearts forever.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Monday, October 12th at Woodward Funeral Home, Louisa, VA.
A service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, October 13th at the funeral home. Interment will follow at 2pm in Laurel Hill Memorial Park, Spotsylvania, VA.

Clevius Carr Apple Jr., 87, of Bumpass passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2015.

Mr. Apple was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church in Beaverdam.

He is survived by his wife, Rosanne Apple; five sons Michael Apple (Christine) of Swafford, LA, John Apple of Bumpass, Allen Apple (Fiona) of Stafford, Darin Apple (Roxana) of Orange and Paul Apple (Laurie) of Bumpass; two daughters Debbie Kiefer (John) of PA and Cheryl Rieman (Vincent) of Welcome, MD; and twenty six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 13 at Woodward Funeral Home.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 14 at the funeral home chapel. Interment will be held at
11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 15 at National Memorial Park, Falls Church, VA.

John Fulton Talley

John Fulton Talley, 75, of Louisa passed away Thursday, October 22, 2015 at Louisa Health and Rehabilitation Center.
John was the son of the late James and Jennie Talley, he was also predeceased by a sister, Virginia Hunt. John was employed for quite a few years with Harris Brothers and Sons, beef and dairy farm and later helped his brother Earl farm until he became disabled. John enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing music and visiting his neighbor Lucy Talley and family.
He attended Trinity Baptist Church.

He is survived by his brothers, Earl Talley and James Lewis Talley, Jr. both of Louisa; and his sister, Merle Lee of Spotsylvania County and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 25 at Woodward Funeral Home.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 26 at Trinity Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church
cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are; Charles Fincham, W. D. Harris, Samuel Harris, Charles Harris, Clarence Johnson, Jr. and Bill Witt.

Ruth M. Gibson went home to be with the Lord on October 26, 2015.
She is preceded in death by her husband,James P. Gibson,Sr.and a son, James P. Gibson, Jr.
Ruth is survived by her children, William S. Piersall, III, Nona M. Willy, Diane McCormick, Donna M. Scheidt, and Victoria Bartholomew, as well as nine grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters.

Andrew Philip Dunn, 76, of Mineral died Wednesday, November 4, 2015 from complications of Alzheimer’s at UVA Medical Center.

Mr. Dunn was preceded in death by his wife, Muriel Dunn.

Survivors include his son, Matthew Dunn (Lynn) of Ruckersville; two daughters, Andrea Williams of Ashburn and Jennifer Novak (Rich) of Leesburg; brother Bill Dunn (Carol) of Australia; sister Carolyn Vincent of Schenectady, NY; six grandchildren, Phillip and Brian Dunn, Connor Falkosky, Travis Williams, Alexa and Samantha Novak; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm Saturday, November 7 at Woodward Funeral Home.

A service will be held at 3pm Sunday, November 8 at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery.

Dean Peery Agee

Dean Peery Agee, 79, of Louisa County passed away Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015.

Mr. Agee was a graduate of Virginia Tech and a lifelong Hokie fan. After working for Virginia Tech Cooperative Extension Service, Virginia Farm Bureau and Cumberland County Public Schools, he was the first County Administrator in Louisa County. He retired as Circuit Court Clerk of Louisa.

Survivors include his wife, Sunny Martin Agee; his three sons, Peery Agee (Yvonne), Martin Agee (Sally), and John Agee (Missy); six grandchildren Katy Lampman, Jessica Dunham, Anna, Owen, Cale and Celia Agee; two great-grandchildren, Natalie and Corynn Lampman; and a sister, Abby Jo Satchwell. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. H. E. Agee.

The family will have an open house at Happy Valley, the Agee home, from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wed., Nov. 11 at St. James Episcopal Church, Louisa.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dean Agee may be made to The Louisa County Education Foundation, Field House Project, P.O. Box 130, Mineral, Va. 23117.

George M. Mann

George “Mac” Mann died December 5, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents; George Mann and Bessie Brooks and his siblings, Blanche Jackson, Shirley Hall and William Brooks.
He is survived by twelve nieces and nephews and their families and cousins.

My best friend died today, William Curtis DeCatur, 86, died Tuesday, December 15, 2015.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa Morrow DeCatur; three sons Alan (Paige), David (Terry) and Steve; two step-grandsons Jason and Logan; and his very special granddaughter, Carolyn E. DeCatur; sisters Frances Simpson (Billy) of Lovingston, VA and Margaret Cooper of Troy, VA; and a number of nieces, nephews and good friends; and his special dog, Molly.

Curtis was a member of Louisa Baptist Church and served faithfully in many areas as long as he was able. He owned a real estate office with United National and was fourth in the nation in sales one year with that company. Curtis served proudly in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict and kept many planes in the air for our fighting men. He was at Andrews Air Force base in the civil service for many years where he continued his love of flying that lead to him getting his private pilot’s license and owning three of his own planes.

Mr. DeCatur was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Ann DeCatur; his mother, Sarah Eleanor DeCatur and his father, Claude DeCatur; two sisters Helen Bennett and Virginia Adelaide Huffman.

The family will receive friends Friday, December 18th from 6 to 8 pm
at Woodward Funeral Home, Louisa, VA.

A celebration of life for family and friends will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 19 at Louisa Baptist Church, 305 East Main Street, Louisa, Lunch will follow in the Church Fellowship Hall.

Lynda Ann Flenard, 74, of Mineral, Virginia passed away peacefully at home on the morning of Saturday, December 19, 2015.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Victor and Kathryn E. Pike (Ellis); brother Glenn A. Pike; and son Gary S. Flenard.

Survivors include her loving husband of 57 years, R. Bruce Flenard Jr.; her son R. Bruce Flenard III and wife Rhona Creegan of Australia; son Lee Flenard of Tucson, Arizona and Drew A. Flenard and wife Carol of Mineral, Virginia. Grandchildren include Heather Flenard of Egg Harbor, New Jersey, Gary S. Flenard Jr. of Mississippi, Stone, Griffin, and Gage Flenard of Tucson, Arizona, and Noah Flenard of Mineral, Virginia. Numerous great grandchildren were blessed by her love and affection.

Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, December 21, 2015 Mineral Baptist Church in Louisa, Virginia with a service immediately following at 2 p.m.

Lynda was blessed with a special talent for seeing and creating beauty around her. She did this through gardening, sewing, flower arranging, decorating and photography. Lynda has touched the lives of so many and leaves her quiet legacy of beauty upon whatever she has touched. Lynda was happiest when those around her were happy and fulfilled and would sacrifice her own needs to first meet the needs of others.

Hazel H. Jones, 78 of Louisa, Virginia passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2015. She was the widow of William Carroll Jones and is also preceded in death by, her mother, Eilse Harlow and two siblings, Russell Perry and Ruby Strong.

She is survived by daughters, Margie Cooney (Greg) of Bumpass, Carolyn Johnson (Ricky) and Mary Kober (John) of Louisa; grandchildren, Nancy Stanley, Matthew Johnson, Annie Kober, and Johnny Kober; great grandchildren, Faith, Remington and Reid; her brothers, Alvin Perry (Harriet) of Hanover, Allen Perry (Patsy) of Powhatan, Robbie Perry of N.C. and Richard Perry of Harrisonburg; her sisters, Helen Cox of Ashland, Francis Ryan (Carl) of Caroline, Thelma Dunivan (Gene) of Charlottesville and Patricia Morris of Hanover.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm on Tuesday, December 22nd at Woodward Funeral Home. A funeral service will be officiated by Rev. James Blackwell at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 23, 2015; interment will be in Yanceyville Christian Church Cemetery, followed by a reception
at Memorial Baptist Church, Louisa, VA.

Albert Amos Redd, 81, of King George County passed away Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2015 at Mary Washington Hospital.

Mr. Redd was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Charlotte Cooper in 2004.

Survivors include his wife, Ina Alice Redd; daughter Lilly A. Whitney (Jim) of LaPlata, MD; granddaughters Alice and Julie Whitney; stepchildren Ralph S.”Dickie” Kidd (Theresa) of King George, Charles H. Kidd (Lynne) of Indian Head, MD, Jackie Post (Chris) of Mechanicsville, MD, and Amber Mathis of Ocala, Fla.; brother Herman Redd of Smith Mountain Lake; sisters Velora Moore of Halifax, Betty Miller (David) of South Boston, Frances Hawker of Danville and Bonnie Snow (Roger) of Halifax; 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30 at Woodward Funeral Home chapel. The family will receive friends from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Raymond Stephens, 87, of Spotsylvania County, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Carriage Hill Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Stephens was preceded in death by his wife, Velma H. Stephens; his parents, Martin and Frances Stephens; his sons, Martin David, Douglas, and Daniel Stephens; and great-grandson, Bryant C. Palmer Jr.

Survivors include his daughter, Dorinda Palmer (Bryant); his grandchildren, David Palmer (Jannette), Stacy Roe (Brian), Kimberly Butler (Robert), Kaitlin Stephens Todd, B. Clayson Palmer (Christine); and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, January 8 at Beecher Funeral Home, Brewster, NY.

A service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 9 at the funeral home.
